3 Volkswagen Group cars are planned for India in the coming months. Volkswagen has listed the New Virtus as coming soon and also confirmed a new sub-4-metre SUV for 2027. Along with it, Skoda has confirmed the Superb TDI for 2027.
If you are considering whether to purchase now or wait a few months, waiting may offer a better value proposition compared to current models available on the market.
Some of the information provided below is official, while other details remain unannounced.
At a glance
- Volkswagen New Virtus: It has been listed as “coming soon”. Its launch date and updated specifications have not been confirmed yet by the VW Group.
- Volkswagen sub-4-metre SUV: It has been confirmed for 2027, but the name, powertrain, features and price have not yet been announced by the group.
- Skoda Superb TDI: Confirmed for India, with deliveries planned by the end of Q2 2027.
1. Volkswagen New Virtus

As per Volkswagen’s India website the “New Virtus” launch is coming soon but the launch date is not confirmed. You can expect the launch in around a month. With an 8-speed automatic, new displays and a revised equipment list should be treated as unconfirmed until Volkswagen officially releases its brochure.
For context, the current India-spec Virtus comes with two turbo-petrol engines:
- 1.0-litre TSI: 115 PS and 178 Nm; 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic.
- 1.5-litre TSI EVO with ACT: 150 PS and 250 Nm; 7-speed DSG.
- Boot capacity: 521 litres.
- Current starting price: From ₹10.70 lakh ex-showroom while variant prices differ.
Volkswagen has not confirmed that the current 1.0 TSI will switch to an 8-speed automatic
What this means for buyers: If you are looking to buy a sedan soon then compare the current Virtus with the Skoda Slavia, Honda City and Hyundai Verna on the exact variant and on-road price. But as the launch is just around the corner, waiting for a couple of months would provide you with a better picture in terms of where the New Virtus stands against competitors.
2. Volkswagen sub-4-metre SUV

Volkswagen has confirmed that a locally manufactured sub-4-metre compact SUV will be launched in India in 2027. It will use the India-focused MQB-A0-IN platform. Though the company has not yet confirmed its name but “Tera” is not an officially announced India model name.
The following details remain unconfirmed for the sub-4-metre SUV:
- Engine and gearbox options
- Power, torque and fuel economy
- Dimensions, boot capacity and tyre sizes
- Equipment and safety features
- Launch month and price
The existing Skoda Kylaq can be an excellent reference point but it does not mean that Volkswagen’s final specification will be exactly the same. The India-spec Kylaq has a 1.0-litre TSI producing 115 PS and 178 Nm that is paired with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. Its boot capacity is 446 litres and its listed tyre sizes vary by variant: 205/60 R16 or 205/55 R17. The Kylaq’s current listed prices start at ₹7.59 lakh ex-showroom. Please check the selected variant and city for the latest price.
The Volkswagen will compete in a busy compact-SUV category that already includes the established hot sellers like the Kylaq, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV 3XO.
What to watch: The price gap between the Volkswagen and Kylaq. The automatic gearbox offered and whether the final boot and rear-seat packaging make it stand out from the competitors.
3. Skoda Superb TDI

Skoda has confirmed the Superb’s return to India with a 2.0-litre TDI diesel. The company confirmed that deliveries are planned by the end of Q2 2027. The exact launch date and price have not been announced.
Skoda Superb information lists:
- Engine: 2.0-litre TDI diesel
- Power: 110 kW, approximately 150 PS
- Torque: 360 Nm
- Transmission: 7-speed DSG
- Drive: Front-wheel drive
The Superb is aimed at buyers who want a spacious, well-equipped executive car. If you are planning to buy then compare its eventual on-road price and ownership package with cars like the Toyota Camry Hybrid.
What to watch: Final price, delivery schedule, warranty and service package.
Verdict: Should you wait?
- If you need the car right now? Shop the currently available Virtus as there will be heavy discounts on offer from dealers with the new Virtus launch just around the corner. Buying the existing one at a discounted price will be good value for money.
- Want a compact Volkswagen SUV? Waiting makes sense if you can hold off until 2027.
- Considering the Superb? It is a confirmed future option but deliveries are planned for the end of Q2 2027.
For Indian buyers, the most useful comparison will come once the brands publish complete India-specific brochures and on-road prices. Check the gearbox, tyre size, boot capacity and safety equipment for the exact variant you plan to buy as specifications can vary across trims and markets.
